There is an awesome 80-year-old maze at Hazlehead Park.It is the Scotland's oldest. Hazlehead Park is one Aberdeen’s oldest historic properties. It was originally part of the great hunting forests of Stocket just outside the city. In 1319 the land was gifted to the city by King Robert the Bruce, as part of the ‘Freedom Boundary’, in appreciation for the support that the townspeople gave prior to the King’s victory over the English at Bannockburn in 1314. The land was returned to Aberdeen Town Council in 1920 for £40,000 with the intention of creating a park for use by the citizens of Aberdeen. Hazlehead Park encompasses both city and countryside with its formal garden layouts, woodland walks, nature trails and bridleways. This park truly has something for all the family including: Two golf courses Maze (temporarily closed for repairs) Mini zoo (Pets' Corner) Heather and conifer garden Azalea garden Large children’s playground and Cafe. There are two formal rose gardens; the Queen Mother’s Rose Garden and the North Sea Memorial Rose Garden a memorial to the victims of the Piper Alpha Production Platform disaster as its centrepiece.
