Sewri Jetty is a popular birdwatching haunt in its namesake suburb of South Mumbai. A large portion of this jetty is under the administration of the Bombay Port Trust. Its distinct ecosystem comprises mangrove swamps, mudflats and creeks that make it a protected area. As winters arrive, a large population of lesser flamingos migrate to this region from Rann of Kutch. These birds come for breeding and feeding on the algae growth that is present here. This area is also flocked by other avian species like egrets, herons, gulls, ibises, plovers, terns and sandpipers.
