Description

The Lohagad Fort (Iron Fort) is located 10 km away from Lonavala, along the Sahyadri region, which divides the Pavna basin and Indrayani basin. This site was built in 1564 to serve as a prison and was later on captured by Shivaji Maharaj in 1670, who used it for keeping his treasure. The three gates of the fort are connected to the main entrance gate, known as the 'Delhi Gate'. At the third gate, there is a small cave, which was initially used for storage of food material. All the four gates of the fort are still intact.Located at an altitude of more than 1050 metres, the hill fort is designed in the shape of fangs of a scorpion.
