Freyan Gogol
San Pietroburgo
Of Swabian Norman origin, the castle stands in the area of the ancient acropolis of Hipponion. It was enlarged in 1289 by Charles of Anjou and later restored during the Aragonese domination in the 11th century. Demolished, in the part relating to the second floor of the building since the earthquake of 1783, it preserves, today, the cylindrical towers, a spurred tower and an arch that dates back to the Angevin domination. Today it houses the State Archaeological Museum.
