Description

The Church is an example of Angevin architecture. It was built around 1336 at the behest of Filippo Sangineto, first Count of Altomonte, on a previous Norman building dedicated to Santa Maria de' Franchis (1050). The church, Latin cross-shaped with a single nave, two side chapels and a rectilinear apse, has a wide transept covered by cross vaults and trussed roof. The façade is characterized by a radial rose window, a large portal with a vegetal motif and a bell tower with mullioned windows. The interior houses the funerary monument of the Sangineto family (14th century), the floor tomb of Cobella Ruffo (15th century), the tomb of an unknown knight (14th century), a fresco of the Giotto school (14th century) and the carved and carved wooden choir (1580).
