Description

Tuvan Throat Singing , also known as Khoomei, Xöömej, Tuvan Overtone Singing,is traditional style of singing found in Tuva, an autonomous region of the Russian Federation situated in southern Siberia. As with other styles of throat singing, Tuvan overtone singing is characterised by the splitting of the voice into two distinct notes: a low, drone note and a contrasting high-pitched harmonic whistle. The most common forms of Tuvan throat singing are sygyt , khoomei and kargyraa but many other sub-styles also exist. Tuvan throat singing has become relatively well known in the West thanks to artists such as Kongar-ool Ondar and Huun-Huur-Tu.
