Description

The Sant'Anna Synagogue Museum, the Great Synagogue, built in the 13th century (later transformed into the church of Sant'Anna) houses the Jewish section of the Diocesan Museum of the Archdiocese of Trani-Barletta-Bisceglie. Inside the structure some finds of the city's Jewish history have found their place. In the crypt are kept some tombstones from the cemeteries of the Jewish community of the city. In the upper area, on the other hand, in addition to educational panels explaining the history of the Jewish presence in Trani and in the South until the 13th-15th centuries and the history of this synagogue-church, there are copies of documents and two finds of exceptional historical value: an ancient Mezuzah dating back to the 12th-13th centuries and parchment fragments of an ancient Bible in Hebrew from the 14th century.
