Description

Al A'ankah Fort lies near the village of Remah, in the emirate of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. It is situated near the road between Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Although Al A'ankah is nowadays called a fort it was built as a fortified house. It is thought to have been built around 1848 by Sheikh Saeed bin Tahnoon, who ruled the emirate of Abu Dhabi from 1845 to 1855. This is all the historical information I was able to find. If you know more, please mail me. The fort consists of a rectangular two storey tower. It stands in the middle of an, more or less, octagonal enclosure. The walls of the fort were built out of mud bricks and cob, palm tree trunks were used for ceilings and gypsum for details. It has been completely restored somewhere in the 1980's.
