Description

Buckingham Palace is recognised around the world as the home of The Queen, the focus of national and royal celebrations as well as the backdrop to the regular Changing the Guard ceremony. The Palace is open to visitors for 10 weeks each summer (20 July - 29 September 2019) and on selected dates during winter and spring. Buckingham Palace is the heart of the British monarchy, one of the few royal palaces still fully active in the world. It is located in the heart of Westminster and has been the London residence of the English royal family since 1837, except in the summer, when the Queen moved to Windsor Castle leaving available. Buckingham Palace is also the London residence of the Duke of York and the Earl and Countess of Wessex, home to the monarchy's office and the most important ceremonies are held inside, as well as the royal meetings we often see on TV. The Royal Palace consists of 775 rooms and 20 hectares of parkland reserved for the royals. The main role inside the palace is represented by the so-called Noble Plan, where there are the dining room of representation, four living rooms (blue living room, white, green, yellow), a music room, the royal toilet, the apartments and of course the throne room. Queen Elizabeth has about 12 rooms, many of which are not accessible to tourists even during opening periods, while other areas are open to the public. In front of the palace is the famous Changing of the Guard, whose tradition dates back to 1660.
