Singapore is mostly known for being great at attracting millionaires for its taxation policies, but there’s so much more to Singapore. There are a lot of highlights in Singapore you should visit and there are plenty of reasons as to why you should add this great city-state to your travel bucket list. We have made a list of reasons of why you should visit Singapore.

1.Modern Art & Architecture

At this moment, there are a lot of building projects going on in Singapore in order to make it more green and more modern. The goal here is to transform the city-state into some kind of futuristic garden city, especially in Marina Bay. This place used to be quite empty, but throughout the last years they built many great buildings, like the Esplanade, the Marina Bay Sands, the Gardens by the Bay and the Singapore Flyer for example.

In the city itself you can find a lot of sculptures, murals and other installations as well. For  a public art trail, you should go to Orchard Road and from there you can look at all of the highlights in the city. There are multiple museums in Singapore as well, like the Singapore Art Museum, the Singapore National Gallery and the Red Dot Design Museum, which is perfect if you love art!

2.Shopping

Another major reason as to why you should visit Singapore is because of the amazing shopping opportunities! They designed their shops and malls in such a way that it’s most efficient to get their visitors to spend as much money as possible. Take the shopping centers in Orchard and those in Marina Bay for example. These malls are connected to both each other and the MRT by different passageways underground and they accept credit cards almost everywhere- which is perfect to get people to spend money. They also have an annual event called the Great Singapore Sale during which you can get bargains all over the island.

3.History

Singapore is also the place to go for all of the history lovers out there. Although they have obliterated numerous historical buildings in order to build more modern things, you can still find a lot of history in this city-state. One of the oldest buildings of Singapore still exists and it is the Raffles Hotel. This hotel was opened in 1887 and it still serves its customers to this day in exactly the same Long Bar as where Charlie Chaplin once went.

Besides some historical buildings, Singapore also has its museums, which are even located near each other. You can find the best museums near each other in the civic center. It’s perfect if you want to visit multiple museums, as you will have to walk less than 5 minutes to get from one to the other.

4.Nature

Although it looks like Singapore mainly focuses on impressive, tall and modern buildings, you can still enjoy nature in this stunning city as well. If you leave the built-up areas, like Marina Bay and the Civic District, you can discover numerous parks al throughout the island. Even better: all of these parks ad up to 46 percent of this country, so Singapore is actually covered in green!

The parks are located in a network that’s managed by The National Parks Board. You can find multiple parks that are perfect for families to visit, like Kent Ridge Park for example, but you could walk through East Coast Park as well on the seaside.

5.Luxury

Since Singapore is so popular among the millionaires, many luxury brands have invested in Singapore as well. There are plenty of luxurious places you can visit when you’re in Singapore. You can eat at multiple restaurants with Michelin-stars for example or go shopping at Marina Bay Sands.

In this shopping center, you can buy luxurious items from Prada, Louis Vuitton and Bulgari.

If you want to relax, you’re at the right place as well. The island has many different spa resorts or day spas for those who want a vacation or just a day of wellness and luxury. Singapore is also perfect if you want to go gambling. In Marina Bay Sands you can find one of the two casinos of Singapore, which is the perfect place to try to double your cash!

6.Food

Lastly, you should definitely try the different kinds of food in Singapore. They have a vibrant food culture, which gives its visitors plenty of foods to choose from. In the numerous open-air foodcourts for example, they sell both Malay, `Chinese, Indian, Thai and Peranakan as well as Western food. Not only can you get your food fast, but often cheap as well.
