Il museo malacologico di Vieste, che raccoglie oggi circa 13.500 esemplari di conchiglie, coralli e affini, nasce dalla passione di Anna Ragni e Biagio Simone che nel corso dei loro viaggi hanno raccolto migliaia di reperti in tutto il mondo, soprattutto nei paesi asiatici. Nasce quindi come collezione privata nel 1975 e si amplia nel corso degli anni: diventa museo vero e proprio nel 1984 e inizia ad attirare molti visitatori. Col tempo i proprietari decidono di integrare il museo con un punto vendita di conchiglie e monili ricavati lavorando conchiglie, coralli e affini, garantendo l’autosostentamento dell’attività e aumentando di dieci volte il numero dei visitatori.
Il museo, adatto sia per grandi che per piccoli, è aperto da aprile a ottobre sia di mattina che di pomeriggio. Addirittura in estate piena l’apertura è prolungata sino alla sera dando possibilità di visitarlo anche ai turisti che hanno trascorso tutta la giornata sulle bellissime spiagge della cittadina.
