Il cippus aballanus fu ritrovato nel territorio dell'antica città sannita di Abella (da cui il nome) tra i ruderi del castello. Fu poi portato in paese e posto a soglia di un'abitazionee ed è oggi custodito nel Seminario arcivescovile di Nola.
MOlto importante per la storia dell'epigrafe Italica.Il cippo è una lastra di pietra calcarea alta 192,5 cm, larga 55 e spessa 27,5.
Il testo, abbastanza lungo, e' pertinente al trattato stipulato tra le citta' di Abella e Nola ed avente come oggetto un santuario di Ercole costruito in territorio comune; forse il trattato fu redatto in occasione di una riorganizzazione del culto. L'atto risulta stipulato fra due magistrati (meddix) e descrive i confini del santuario, le sue proprieta', la regolamentazione edilizia all'interno e all esterno del recinto sacro, indicando anche il confine tra i territori delle due citta'.
