Međunarodni projekt koji je pokrenuo njemački astronom Friedrich Georg Vilhelm von Struve 1845.godine, Geodetski luk Struve imao je za cilj mapiranje oblika i veličine zemlje mjerenjem udaljenosti od Hammerfesta u Norveškoj do Crnog mora. Veliki broj točaka triangulacije postavljen je na dionicu od gotovo 3000 kilometara preko Norveške, Švedske i Rusije.
U Norveškoj su geodetske točke Struve smještene na četiri mjesta: Meridianstetten u Fuglenesu na Hammerfestu, vrhovi planina Lille Raipas / Unna Raipasas u Alti, Luvdiidchokkka (Lodiken) u Kautokeinu i Beallishvarri/Muvravarri u Kautokeinu. Prva je jedinstvena i vrlo popularna atrakcija, kao i najsjevernija od ovih mjernih točaka.
Projekt je trajao gotovo 40 godina i bio je prva međunarodna suradnja u kojoj je Norveška sudjelovala kao nacija. Norveške mjerne točke uvrštene su na popis svjetske baštine čovječanstva 2005.godine, zajedno s 32 u drugim zemljama.
