Le Kaiservilla de Bad Ischl était la résidence d'été de l'empereur François-Joseph Ier et de l'impératrice Elisabeth d'Autriche, dite Sisi. À l'origine, le palais était une villa Biedermeier appartenant à un notaire viennois nommé Josef August Eltz. En 1850, il a été acheté par le Dr Eduard Mastalier. Après les fiançailles de François-Joseph avec la princesse Elisabeth de Bavière en 1853, la mère de François-Joseph, la princesse Sophie de Bavière, a acheté la villa comme cadeau de mariage pour le couple.
Au cours des années suivantes, la villa a été modifiée et agrandie dans un style néoclassique par Antonio Legrenzi. La partie centrale existante a été agrandie vers le parc et la partie postérieure de la maison a été transformée pour former l'entrée avec des colonnes et des tympans classiques. Deux ailes supplémentaires ont été construites.
La villa est entourée d'un grand parc de style anglais. L'ensemble architectural dans sa forme contemporaine a été achevé en 1860. La construction a été considérablement ralentie par le fait qu'elle ne pouvait pas se dérouler pendant les mois d'été en raison de la présence de la famille royale.
Aujourd'hui, le manoir est la résidence de l'archiduc Markus Habsburg, mais il propose également des visites du parc au public.
