El castillo de Golkoy se encuentra en Gölköy, en el distrito de Ordu. Según varios historiadores, este magnífico castillo fue construido en los siglos III y IV por el rey persa Dara.
El castillo, así como las murallas, se construyeron sobre una roca natural relativamente grande. En la entrada de la fortaleza hay un bastión cilíndrico con una sola puerta. Además, el castillo de Gölköy, que tiene un gran potencial turístico, domina una zona de gran extensión, que incluye también las localidades de Persembe y Piraziz.
Es el castillo más alto de Ordu y, por tanto, es muy popular no sólo entre los lugareños sino también entre los extranjeros. A lo largo de su historia, el castillo ha sido utilizado para diferentes fines. De hecho, ha sido utilizado por diferentes civilizaciones como estructura defensiva para protegerse de un ataque del enemigo que quería conquistar la ciudad. Además, la fortaleza, que entonces era sólo un lugar desocupado o virgen, estaba rodeada de trampas que impedían la entrada del enemigo.
Esta magnífica formación natural, la Fortaleza de Gölköy, fue utilizada de la misma manera durante el periodo otomano y fue protegida heroicamente por los soldados del gran comandante Tayfun Pasha. Aunque se llama Gölköy (pueblo junto al lago) por los numerosos lagos que lo rodean, la fortaleza también se conoce como castillo de Tayfun Pasha. Después del siglo XVIII, perdió su importancia.
