Danski kipar Bjorn Norgaard 2000.godine stvorio je "genetski modificirani raj", nadrealnu seriju neobično deformiranih stvorenja, uključujući "genetski modificiranu Malu sirenu", novu interpretaciju čuvenog kipa male sirene u Kopenhagenu. Svaki od norgaardovih likova izrađen je od lijevanog željeza, nehrđajućeg čelika, aluminijske bronce, zlatnog lista, pozlaćenog olova, granita, bronce i pješčenjaka za Svjetski sajam 2000.u Hannoveru u Njemačkoj. Tema te godine bila je "čovjek, priroda, tehnologija", za koju su ove skulpture zasigurno odgovarale računu.
Ova je sirena također brončana i sjedi u pozi sličnoj Eriksenovoj, ali njezina iskrivljena figura s izduženim nogama u obliku kostura i neprepoznatljivom glavom kritika je genetskih promjena. Nakon završetka izložbe, skulpture su premještene 2006.godine na Trg Dalereups u Kopenhagenu, gdje žive na vodi, samo nekoliko minuta hoda od izvornog kipa u Langeliniju.
