Danski Kipar Bjørn Nørgaard 2000.godine stvorio je "genetski modificirani raj", nadrealnu seriju čudno pogrešnih bića, uključujući "genetski modificiranu malu sirenu", novu interpretaciju čuvene statue Kopenhagena "Mala sirena". Svaki od nørgaardovih likova napravljen je od livenog gvožđa, nerđajućeg čelika, aluminijum-bronze, zlatnog lista, pozlaćenog olova, granita, bronze i peščara za svetsku izložbu 2000 u Hanoveru u Nemačkoj. Tema za tu godinu bila je" čovjek, priroda, tehnologija " za koju ove skulpture sigurno odgovaraju računu.
Ova sirena je takođe bronzana i nalazi se u položaju sličnom Eriksenovoj, ali njena uvrnuta figura, izduženih skeletnih nogu i neprepoznatljive glave, kritika je genetskih promjena. Jednom kada je izložba završena, skulpture su preseljene 2006.godine na Trg Dahlerups u Kopenhagenu, gdje žive na vodi, samo nekoliko minuta hoda od originalne statue u Langelinieu.
