La fontaine, située dans les jardins du palais royal de Caserte, représente Cérès, déesse de la fertilité des champs, entourée de nymphes, de cupidons, de couples de tritons et de deux dauphins jouant de la buccina. La déesse tient le médaillon de Trinacria et sur les côtés sont représentés, sous la forme de divinités masculines, les deux fleuves siciliens Anapo (l'ancien Alfeo) et Arethusa, la nymphe de Diane transformée en source pour échapper à l'amour d'Alfeo, qui se transforma à son tour en fleuve pour rejoindre sa bien-aimée. À l'origine, Cérès avait la tête ornée d'épis de maïs, tandis que les Néréides tenaient des épis de bronze, qui ont été retirés pendant l'occupation française. La splendide composition sculpturale, avec sa forme pyramidale harmonieuse, est l'œuvre de Gaetano Salomone et a été réalisée en marbre de Carrare et en travertin entre 1783 et 1785.
