Bordighera è chic ed elegante come i turisti inglesi che la colonizzarono a fine ‘800. Percorrete la via Romana e ammirate la pineta, i muri coperti di buganville, i grandiosi alberghi in stile liberty, le lussuose ville. La città vecchia vi accoglie con i suoi carrugi e un’alta concentrazione di ottimi ristoranti. Il lungomare offre un panorama che spazia dalla Costa Azzurra a Sanremo e numerosi ristoranti e locali notturni. Concedetevi un romantico tramonto a Capo Sant’Ampelio (all’inizio del lungomare venendo da Sanremo) e, dopo una movimentata serata estiva, non mancate un’istituzione bordigotta: una fetta di “pastecca” (anguria) sul porto.
L'origine del borgo sembra risalire all'età del bronzo, grazie ai ritrovamenti di tumoli sepolcrali in località Pian del Re. Ufficialmente il borgo venne fondato intorno al decimo secolo dai conti provenienti da Ventimiglia, passando poi nel ai Doria, signori di Dolceacqua. E' situato nella valle del Merdanzo, affluente del fiume Nervia. Alla città è stata conferita nel 2006 la "Bandiera Arancione" dal Touring Club Italiano e considerato uno dei borghi liguri più belli d'Italia. Da visitare Il castello della Lucertola, la chiesa parrocchiale della Purificazione di Maria Vergine, la chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angeli, la chiesa di Sant' Antonio abate e l'oratorio di san Bartolomeo. Ogni anno vengono organizzate mostre fotografiche, scultoree e pittoriche nel castello della Lucertola. Fa parte della Comunità Montana Intemelia.
