La fontaine de Neptune se trouve sur la Piazza delle Erbe, à l'angle de la Via dei Portici. Conçue par G. Mayr di Fiè, la fontaine a été érigée au XVIIIe siècle à l'endroit où se trouvait le pilori public pour les paysans. C'est la seule fontaine monumentale de Bolzano qui date du XVIIIe siècle et elle représente Neptune debout avec trois dauphins au-dessus de grandes coupes en bronze en forme de coquille. Le dieu de la mer lève le trident classique vers le ciel, c'est pourquoi les habitants de Bolzano appellent confidentiellement la fontaine "Gabelwirt" (aubergiste avec une fourchette). Cette œuvre d'art remarquable est l'une des cent plus belles fontaines d'Italie.
