O castelo, pertencentes á Sanseverino familia, toma o seu nome da conspiración organizada dentro del polos Baróns do reino, contra a Fernando I de Aragón, Rei de Nápoles. A conspiración tivo lugar o 1 de outubro, 1481 e rematou coa sanguenta masacre dos Baróns na Gran Sala do primeiro andar; a partir dese momento, o castelo foi chamado "Malconsiglio".
O castelo ten a forma dun paralelogramo, flanqueado por sete torres, o máis antigo do que son cadrados, dous bitorri e algúns circular torres, situados nos vértices do edificio. El está construído en dous niveis, con unha galería que se remonta a unha renovación orde pola Desfacer en 1600. A parte máis fermosa do castelo é o cuarto da estrela ou espíritos, en cuxo nichos esculpidas nas paredes foron mantidos os tesouros dos seus habitantes.
