La cathédrale est flanquée du clocher, communément appelé Torrazzo. Haute de plus de 112 mètres, elle est le résultat de la superposition de deux structures différentes. La première, probablement construite en 1267, est une tour romane avec des créneaux guelfes. Le second consiste en deux tambours octogonaux (guirlande) placés au sommet de la tour. On suppose que la construction a été achevée en 1305. La boule et la croix au sommet du dôme datent du 17e siècle.
L'ascension du Torrazzo est très suggestive, du haut duquel on a un panorama stupéfiant sur la ville et le fleuve Po.
Le beffroi contient 7 cloches coulées en 1744. Chacune est dédiée à un saint, dont le saint patron de la ville, St Omobono. Leurs sons forment un concert en la bémol.
L'horloge astronomique du clocher a été installée en 1583 par Francesco Divizioli pour remplacer une plus ancienne et suite à la réforme du calendrier grégorien. Le mécanisme, qui fonctionne parfaitement, est d'origine, tandis que le cadran a été repeint plusieurs fois. La version actuelle date de 1970. L'horloge est capable d'indiquer le mouvement des étoiles, les phases de la lune et le mouvement du soleil.
