O paso de Gavia ten unha altitude de 2.621 metros sobre o nivel do mar. e conecta -só durante a época estival- a provincia de Sondrio coa de Brescia.
O paso de Gavia é, despois do Stelvio, o paso alpino máis alto de Italia (2.652 m snm) e une a Valtellina con Ponte di Legno, na provincia de Brescia.

Caterina Valfurva a subida que leva ao paso Gavia gaña uns 900 metros de altitude en pouco máis de 13 quilómetros, cunha pendiente media do 6,5% e con varios tramos fáciles e pedaleables intercalados con outros decididamente desafiantes. O lado de Brescia dende Ponte di Legno, pola contra, é o máis difícil: ao longo dos 18 km de estrada, de feito, pódese chegar a un desnivel do 12% cun desnivel total duns 1.380 metros.
