Simbolo della città e del parco è il Fonte Pliniano, monumento citato da Plinio il Vecchio per il costante apporto idrico. Raffigurato nello stemma cittadino come un pozzo dal quale sboccia un mandorlo, il Fonte è posto all’ingresso del parco e stupisce per l’atmosfera magica creata dal gioco di luci all’interno dell’ambiente ipogeo e per un particolare che colpì anche Plinio: per quanta acqua si prelevi, il livello del pozzo resta invariato.
L’area del Parco archeologico delle Mura Messapiche, estesa circa 15 ettari, comprende gran parte dei resti delle cinte difensive della città antica e oltre 1000 tombe scavate nella roccia, che ci permettono di comprendere la straordinaria grandezza del popolo messapico manduriano. Le mura difensive della città messapica sono rappresentate da tre cerchie murarie concentriche di grandezza e tipologia costruttiva differenti. La cerchia interna (V sec. a.C.) ha un perimetro di oltre 2 km;
