Duela mende bat baino apur bat arte, oso funtzio praktiko garrantzitsua ere izan zuen, hiri barruko putzuetakoa baino askoz ur osasuntsuagoa ematen baitzion biztanleriari, sarritan ukuiluetako edo sakabanatutako estoldeetako ur zikinek kutsatuta. Faenza Erromañako lehen hirietako bat izan zen, akueduktu batez hornitu zena, nahiz eta isurketa-puntu batzuetara mugatu, denbora luzez komunitatearentzat harrotasun iturri izan zen.
Dagoeneko Errenazimendu garaian jendearen erabilerarako iturri bat zegoen udal logiatik gertu. Gero, 1583an, fraide Domenico Paganelli (1545-1624), San Pietro lantegiko (hau da, Faenzako katedrala) arkitekto pontifikale eta superintendentea, ura erdigunera eramateko enkargatu zitzaion.
Kartiera inguruan edateko ura bikaina aurkitu zuen eta terrakotazko akueduktua eraikitzen hasi zen, fraidea Erromara deitzen baitzuten beste obra batzuk egiteko luzaroan eten zuten lanak.
1614an berreskuratu zen eta Paganellik berak, Rivarola kardinalak proposatuta, D. Castelli arkitekto tisinoarrari iturri bat eraikitzeko enkargatu zion, eta 1621ean amaitu zituen lanak.
