Le temple de Kali est un important centre de pèlerinage pour les hindous. Le temple original est censé avoir été construit il y a 350 ans ; celui-ci date de 1809. La légende raconte que lorsque le corps de Sati, épouse du Seigneur Shiva, a été découpé en morceaux par le chakra Sidarshan, un de ses orteils est tombé ici. On pense qu'il s'agit du temple original du village de Kolikata, d'où le nom de la ville. C'est un endroit qui bouleverse les esprits, bien qu'il soit plutôt sinistre ; des chèvres y sont régulièrement abattues pour honorer la déesse destructrice Kali.
