Los expertos han añadido recientemente un alimento de Perú a la lista de súper alimentos: la lúcuma. La fruta peruana ha llegado recientemente a las tiendas de alimentos saludables y suplementos en todo el mundo. En su forma natural, la lúcuma se parece a algo similar a un aguacate o a un mango inmaduro con una piel exterior verde. Una vez abierta, encontrarás una pulpa de color amarillo dorado que sabe como un caramelo cremoso. Su textura no es blanda ni viscosa, sino seca, por lo que los peruanos no suelen morderla, sino que la añaden a batidos, helados y otros dulces. La comida se remonta a los incas, que tenían en gran estima la fruta de color amarillo anaranjado. A veces incluso se le llama "el oro de los Incas" y algunos lo consideran un fruto de la fertilidad. Como era de esperar, el superalimento está lleno de componentes saludables como betacaroteno, hierro, zinc, vitamina B3, calcio y proteínas. También es defendido como un alimento anti-envejecimiento y promueve la salud cardiovascular.
