Situé au sommet d'une colline escarpée à 5 000 pieds au-dessus du niveau de la mer, Castelluccio est le plus haut village de la chaîne de montagnes des Appenins - et sans doute le plus beau. D'un côté, le village est soutenu par des montagnes enneigées, et de l'autre, par des plaines luxuriantes et fertiles qui fleurissent au printemps avec des coquelicots rouges, des violettes et du colza (choisissez le moment de votre visite à la "Floraison", de fin mai à début juin). Malheureusement, un tremblement de terre en 2016 a rendu le village pratiquement inhabitable, mais certains habitants ont rouvert des magasins et des restaurants qui sont actuellement ouverts aux visiteurs.
