Die Skulpturengruppe, die den Brunnen in den Gärten des prächtigen Königspalastes von Caserta schmückt, stellt den Moment dar, in dem Venus Adonis vergeblich anfleht, nicht auf die Jagd zu gehen, um sein tragisches Schicksal abzuwenden: Um den jungen Mann herum jubelnde Hunde für die bevorstehende Jagd, während auf einem Felsen das Wildschwein versteckt ist, das ihn tödlich verletzen wird. Eine Schar von Nymphen und Amoretten nimmt an der Trauer der Göttin teil. Das Werk, ein leichtes und lebendiges Ganzes, wurde von Gaetano Salomone aus Carrara-Marmor gefertigt.
