Inaugurado en 1778, durante o reinado de Fernando IV de borbón, foi construído por Domenico Amedeo Orsini, cardeal e Duque de Gravina, para dar á cidade un maior abastecemento de auga, usando a auga do Pozzo Pateo primavera.
