Fæstningen eller Rocca Della Verruca, på den homonyme top (537 meter) af Pisan-bjergene dominerer hele Pisan-sletten og løbet af Arno. Kilder vidner om dets eksistens allerede før året tusind. Navnet kommer fra det faktum, at det ligger på bjerget med samme navn, hvis form ligner en vorte. Selvom den er i dårlig stand, har den bevaret en vis charme ud over den femkantede plan. Inde inde var der en epigraf med det første spor af italiensk roing, der lyder "tolv juni mciii", nu bevaret i Pisa i Nationalmuseet i San Matteo.
Rocca Della Verruca var et vigtigt sted for det defensive system i Pisan-Republikken, så meget, at det blev kaldt "Pisans øje", fordi derfra kunne du kontrollere en stor del af territoriet.
