Le volcan Lanín est l'un des massifs andins les plus attachants et les plus mythiques de la Patagonie. Le Lanín est un stratovolcan en forme de cône, recouvert de glace, à la frontière de l'Argentine et du Chili. Il fait partie de deux parcs nationaux : Lanín en Argentine et Villarrica au Chili. Il est un symbole de la province argentine de Neuquén, faisant partie de son drapeau et de son hymne. Bien que la date de sa dernière éruption ne soit pas connue, on estime qu'elle a eu lieu au cours des 10 000 dernières années. Le volcan Lanín, avec une hauteur de 3776 m, est l'un des plus hauts sommets de Patagonie.
