Description

The Stone Bridge in Skopje is one of the most important attractions of the city. There are two hypotheses about the initial construction of the bridge. According to the first one (which is confirmed by archaeological studies), it was built in the 6th century, right after the catastrophic earthquake of the year 518. The earthquake occurred during the Empire by Emperor Justinian I. According to the second hypothesis, which is supported by historical sources, the bridge was probably rebuilt during Sultan Mehmed II Conqueror (1444-1446; 1451-1481), between 1451 and 1469. Still today it is possible to admire the 12 arches that compose it, for a length of 214 meters and a width of 6, completely illuminated at night. A beautiful spectacle, especially for lovers of photography.
