Top of the World
The Port Said Armed Forces Museum, located in the harbor area, displays an extensive collection of military memorabilia related to the country's history and Egypt's participation in various wars, such as World War II, the 1948 Israeli-Arab War and the 1967 war. Among the museum's most important works is the centerpiece of the exhibit, a Soviet T-34 tank, a symbol of the Egyptians' victory over the Israelis in the Sinai War of 1956. He successfully led the North African campaign, capturing much of Egypt and Libya, but was eventually defeated by Allied forces at the Battle of El Alamein in 1942. Rommel committed suicide in 1944 after being involved in a plot to kill Adolf Hitler. Another noteworthy work è the bust of Saad Zaghloul, leader of the Egyptian national movement and prime minister of Egypt, located at the entrance to the museum.
There are also several statues depicting historical figures, including Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser and General Ahmed Abdel Aziz, commander of the Egyptian army during the Yom Kippur War. The museum also houses an important collection of medals, orders and military decorations, including the prestigious Order of the Nile, Egypt's highest civilian and military honor.
