The Batterie Du Roule are a series of military fortifications located in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, Normandy, France, built during World War II by Nazi Germany. The batteries were used to defend the port of Cherbourg from the Allies during the invasion of Normandy in June 1944.The Batterie Du Roule consisted of four main fortifications, each equipped with heavy guns and machine guns. The fortifications were built using advanced military engineering techniques, including interconnected bunkers and underground tunnels. Access to the batteries was possible only through a network of well-protected roads and bridges.During the Battle of Cherbourg in June 1944, the Allies took control of Batterie Du Roule after a heavy air and naval bombardment. Most of the batteries still remain visible today and can be visited by tourists as a historical attraction. Some bunkers have been turned into museums, where visitors can learn about the history of the batteries and the Battle of Cherbourg.
