The Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepción is one of the largest and most important churches in the city and serves as the seat of the Diocese of Colón-Kuna Yala.The cathedral was built between 1859 and 1874 in the Neoclassical style, with an impressive facade and a large rose window in the center. The interior of the cathedral is equally impressive, with a wide and spacious nave and a series of side chapels richly decorated with frescoes, statues, and altars.The cathedral is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, the Catholic dogma that the Virgin Mary was conceived without original sin. The Feast of the Immaculate Conception is celebrated every year on December 8, and is one of the most important religious holidays in Panama.The Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepción was declared a national monument by the Panamanian government in 1976 because of its historical and cultural importance to the city of Colón and the country in general. It is one of the most visited attractions in Colón and an important landmark for the country's Catholic community.
