Located at the confluence of two rivers, on the slope shaped natural amphitheater near the Lot valley, Conques offers a heritage rich in history, traditions and cultural life.
At the end of the eighth century, the hermit Dadon decided to withdraw this place into solitude. Thus, a Benedictine monastery with the Carolingian monastery was founded. With St. Foy relics brought from Agen in 866, Conques became a pilgrimage centre and an important step on the road to Santiago de Compostela.
