About Ex Prison Island of Capraia

Ex Prison Island of Capraia - Isola di Capraia | Secret World Trip Planner

On October 27, 1986, the Ministry of Justice ordered the closure of the Capraia Isola prison and the transfer to the Financial Administration of the building complex that housed the institution, together with all the annexed areas. The penitentiary institute consisted of several building complexes known as Branches. The Central was located in the former convent of Sant'Antonio and was the seat of the management and administrative offices of the prison. It can still be accessed today by passing under two arches from which one can glimpse the Tower of the Port and the Director's house, today the seat of the Municipality of Capraia.
