Der Bodenseereiter is located in Uberlingen. An eye-catcher on the Überlinger Landungsplatz is the fountain by the well-known sculptor Peter Lenk, who has lived and worked on Lake Constance for many years. When designing his fountain, which was unveiled in 2000, the sculptor was inspired by Gustav Schwab's famous ballad Der Bodenseereiter. The poet tells a legend from the 16th century, according to which a horseman unknowingly crossed the frozen Lake Constance and died of shock after realizing it.
Peter Lenk satirically reinterpreted the story as referring to the writer Martin Walser, who lives in Überlingen.
The figures looking out of the fountain basin represent celebrities from Überlingen who did not contribute to the financing of the fountain, e.g. B. the former directors of local financial institutions.
