La fuente, situada en los jardines del Palacio Real de Caserta, representa a Ceres, diosa de la fertilidad de los campos, rodeada de ninfas, cupidos, parejas de tritones y dos delfines tocando la buccina. La diosa sostiene el medallón de Trinacria y a los lados están representados, en forma de deidades masculinas, los dos ríos sicilianos Anapo (el antiguo Alfeo) y Aretusa, la ninfa de Diana transformada en manantial para huir del amor de Alfeo, que a su vez se convirtió en río para llegar a su amada. Originalmente, Ceres tenía la cabeza adornada con espigas, mientras que las Nereidas sostenían espigas de bronce, que fueron retiradas durante la ocupación francesa. La espléndida composición escultórica, con su armoniosa forma piramidal, es obra de Gaetano Salomone y fue realizada en mármol de Carrara y piedra travertino entre 1783 y 1785.
