Garzon - Garzón | Secret World Trip Planner

The town of Garzón has a very interesting history. Founded in 1892 as a railway station, the town soon became a center of wool and textile production. However, in the late 1950s, the railway station was closed and the town began to decline, becoming a ghost town. In recent years, Garzón has experienced a real renaissance thanks to the presence of Argentine celebrity chef Francis Mallmann. Mallmann bought a former emporium in Garzón and turned it into a successful restaurant, Restaurante Garzón. The restaurant serves exquisite dishes that enhance local products, such as beef and fresh fish, all cooked over a flame. In addition to Mallmann's restaurant, Garzón offers numerous other attractions for visitors. The town è is home to numerous contemporary art galleries, creative spaces and fashion boutiques. In addition, the region è a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, with numerous opportunities for horseback riding, birdwatching, biking and outdoor activities. Although you may decide to stay elsewhere, I recommend indulging in dinner at the Garzón restaurant: the menu really exalts regional products, and everything from salads with roasted oranges to wonderful rib-eye steak and even cocktails is cooked over a flame. Garzón è is also known for its wine production. In fact, the city is home to the Bodega Garzón winery, which produces some of the best wines in Uruguay.

Continue the route for another 30 minutes from Garzón (a section of the road can be quite winding and bumpy), and you'll reach a long, low stone building that is home to precisely the brand new Bodega Garzón winery. Take a guided tour with tasting (remember that Uruguay has zero tolerance for drunk driving, so choose a sober driver), or have lunch in the winery's 'farm-to-plate' restaurant and enjoy a glass of wine on the terrace, admiring the expanse of vineyards.

Don't forget to try the Balasto, a blend that includes the most popular grape variety in Uruguay, Tannat. In general, Garzón è an ideal destination for those seeking a romantic and relaxing break, immersed in the beauty of the Uruguayan pampas.
