About Gorropu Gorge

Gorropu Gorge - Urzulei | Secret World Trip Planner

An eerie silence and wild nature will welcome you among the impressive vertical walls of the so-called Grand Canyon of Europe, a deep fissure carved over the millennia by the waters of the Rio Flumineddu river between the Orgosolo and Urzulei supramonte, with walls up to 450 meters high and the bottom of the gorge covered with large, smooth, white boulders. The walk between one side and the other of the gorge can be done in about two hours untangling the large limestone boulders(a good pair of hiking shoes is recommended). Between ropes staked in the boulders and paths lined with caves, it will be possible to venture about a mile, after which the route will only be possible with proper equipment.
