Frequently Asked Questions

Aglianico del Taburno DOCG is a prestigious wine denomination from the province of Benevento in Campania, produced primarily from Aglianico grapes (minimum 85%) blended with other authorized black berry varieties. The production area spans nine complete municipalities including Montesarchio and Torrecuso, plus partial territories of Benevento, Cautano, Vitulano, and Tocco Caudio, earning it the nickname 'the Chianti of Campania.'
Standard Aglianico del Taburno Rosso must age for a minimum of two years, while the premium Rosso Riserva requires at least three years of aging, with at least twelve months spent in wooden barrels and six months in the bottle. These strict aging requirements ensure the wine develops its full complexity and character.
The Aglianico del Taburno DOCG denomination covers three wine typologies: Rosso (red wine), Rosso Riserva (aged reserve red wine), and Rosato (rosé wine). Each must meet specific production standards and aging requirements set by the DOCG regulations.
Key towns in the Aglianico del Taburno region include Montesarchio, Benevento, Torrecuso, Apollosa, and Campoli del Monte Taburno, all located in the province of Benevento in Campania. These charming towns offer direct access to the wine-producing areas and local wineries where you can taste and purchase authentic DOCG wines.
Aglianico del Taburno stands out through its strict DOCG regulations requiring high Aglianico grape content and significant aging periods, particularly for the Riserva designation with mandatory barrel and bottle maturation. Often compared to Tuscany's Chianti, it represents Campania's commitment to producing world-class, complex red wines with distinctive regional character.
