The Heritage Transport Museum is a testament to the passion for collecting and preserving objects related to transportation in India. Founded as a non-profit organization under the Indian Trust Act (1882), it was driven by the curiosity and the desire to collect rare and unique transportation artifacts. Over two decades of research culminated in the establishment of India's first comprehensive transport museum.
Located on a three-acre plot off National Highway 8 at Tauru-Gurgaon, the museum occupies an impressive built-up area of over 90,000 square feet, spread across four floors. It houses exhibition galleries, a library, a reference center, conference rooms, a mini auditorium, a museum shop, and a restaurant facility. The Ministry of Culture, Government of India, provided a grant of Six Crores to support the construction of the museum building, with additional funding coming from corporate and individual donations and sponsorships.
What sets the Heritage Transport Museum apart is its innovative approach as an "anti-museum." It goes beyond traditional museums by providing a space for fun and experiential learning. Visitors are encouraged to actively engage in learning about the evolution of transportation in India, making it a family-friendly destination that combines education with entertainment.
