The west, one of the four main gates of the city, was built during the construction of defensive walls in the 13th century. The Kröpelin Gate was mentioned in a document for the first time in 1280 and is the most magnificent of the former 22 city & water gates. The 54-meter high, 7-story Gothic structure is the seat of the historical association Geschichtswerkstatt Rostock.
