Una vez a la semana, después de la misa del sábado por la tarde, los fieles de la iglesia de Santa María in Vallicella (Chiesa Nuova) pueden asistir a un espectáculo muy curioso: el cuadro de Rubens titulado Ángeles adorando a la Virgen valiceliana, situado detrás del altar, desaparece. En su lugar aparece un dicho icono milagroso de la Virgen.
Alrededor de la hornacina que alberga la imagen, se colocan círculos concéntricos de ángeles y querubines adoradores, mientras que una placa de cobre, en la que el propio Rubens pintó una Virgen con el Niño bendiciendo, reproduce y protege el icono sagrado que se encuentra debajo, pero que puede levantarse mediante un mecanismo de poleas y cuerdas.
Hoy, con un mando a distancia, el sacristán hace bajar un cuadro y subir otro. La invención es del propio Rubens.
