The Mercado Agrícola Montevideo (MAM) is a covered market located in the Cordón neighborhood, a few blocks from Montevideo's city center. Opened in 1913, the market has recently been renovated and is now one of the most popular places in Montevideo to buy fresh and organic produce, such as fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, bread, cheese, and other food products.Beyond food products, the MAM also offers a wide variety of services and activities for the public. Inside the market are restaurants, cafes, and bars serving typical Uruguayan dishes, such as empanadas (stuffed dumplings), chivito (a sandwich stuffed with meat, salad, egg, and bacon), and other local specialties.The market also hosts cultural events, such as concerts and theater performances, art exhibitions and book presentations.
