Nidaros Cathedral

Nidaros Cathedral is one of Norway's most important medieval churches and is located in the heart of Trondheim in the Trøndelag region. The cathedral was built in 1070 and was used as the coronation place for Norwegian kings from the 13th century until 1906.The cathedral is famous for its Gothic architecture and decorative details, including numerous sculptures, stained glass windows, and frescoes. The west portal is one of the highlights of the building, with its bas-reliefs representing scenes from the Bible and Norwegian history.Inside the cathedral are numerous side chapels and altars, as well as the tomb of St. Olav, the patron saint of Norway. The cathedral has been damaged and rebuilt many times throughout its history, with restoration and expansion work carried out mainly in the 19th and 20th centuries.Today, Nidaros Cathedral is an important place of pilgrimage for Christians, but it is also a popular tourist attraction, visited annually by thousands of people from all over the world. The cathedral offers guided tours and concerts of sacred music throughout the year.
