U početku su se borbe s bikovima održavale na Plaza de San Francisco, povijesnom trgu u blizini Gradske vijećnice u Sevilli.
Prva drvena privremena Arena sagrađena je 1730.godine u blizini današnjeg mjesta Plaza de Toros. Arena je bila pravokutnog oblika, što je bila prednost za "bikove" koji su se mogli povući u kut. To se smatralo nesigurnim za bikove, a 1933.strukturu je zamijenila kružna Arena, također izrađena od drveta.
1761.godine odlučeno je izgraditi stalno mjesto na mjestu buvljaka.
Veličanstvenu arenu za borbu s bikovima koju danas vidimo dizajnirao je Vicente San Martin, koji je stvorio elegantnu strukturu u tipičnom regionalnom stilu. Trebalo bi više od jednog stoljeća prije nego što je arena konačno dovršena 1881. Danas ima kapacitet od oko 12.500 gledatelja.
U podnožju bikova nalazi se kip Francisca Romera Lopeza, poznatijeg kao Curro Romero, slavnog torera iz Seville koji je bio aktivan od 1950-ih do kasnih 1990-ih.
