About Porquerolles and the arcipelago of Hyères

Porquerolles and the arcipelago of Hyères - Hyères | Secret World Trip Planner

Porquerolles is the largest of the islands in the Hyères archipelago, it is shaped like an arch and measures 7 kilometres long by 3 kilometres wide. Located off the Mediterranean coast of France, between Toulon and Saint Tropez, Porquerolles is a little corner of paradise with dream beaches, where nature is preserved thanks to strict environmental protection standards, where the only sounds are those of cicadas, the rustle of the wind and the waves. All this just a few minutes by ferry from the French Riviera. On the north coast, with a gentler landscape, there are many white sandy beaches and pine forests that reach the sea, blue and clear as few other places in the Mediterranean. The southern side of the island is instead more rugged and wild, with cliffs and small coves accessible through steep paths. The small village of Porquerolles is located on the northern coast and develops around the port and the Place d'Armes, the village square where the few inhabitants of the island play petanque, where the maximum of worldliness is to sit in one of the small outdoor bars and sip a pastis as an aperitif.
